Why Consider Annexation?
Many homes and properties in our community are facing a challenge: aging septic systems that need replacement, but limited options for upgrading. Our proximity to the Deschutes River, active wells throughout the area, required setbacks, and the high cost of new compliant systems make individual solutions increasingly difficult and expensive.
The Tumalo Basin Sewer District offers a community-based alternative that can help protect our property values, safeguard our water quality, and provide a sustainable long-term solution for wastewater management.
Joining is Voluntary
Annexation into the District is completely voluntary. We respect that many homeowners have already invested in upgraded septic systems, and we have no intention of forcing anyone to connect. The District cannot annex properties without an election and a vote by affected property owners.
Help Us Plan for the Future
While we can't yet provide specific timelines or rate information, your expression of interest through annexation helps the District in critical ways:
What Annexation Means
When you annex into the District, your property becomes part of our service area boundary and will be set up for connection when a sewer main becomes available. Annexation does not guarantee service within a specific timeframe, and you'll only pay fees and monthly charges if and when you actually connect to the system.
